Gaye Advert (Gaye Atlas)

Gaye Advert, punk chick extraordinaire

Born: August 29, 1956
Claim to fame: Adverts bassist, 1977-1979

With her distinctive heavy, dark eye makeup and black leather jacket, bass player Gaye Advert was indeed the quintessential punk poster girl of the 1970's. Her photo appeared in several editions of the music weekly Sounds; in addition, a couple of Adverts appearances on Top of The Pops helped to further cement her place as the 1970's Britpunk "It Girl".

Gaye and Paul hamming it up for the cameras During those wild and heady late 1970's heydays, she was often seen hob-nobbing around town with the likes of Captain Sensible (the Damned), Joey Ramone, Motorhead's Lemmy, and the Sex Pistols' Paul Cook (left).

Following the requisite "15 minutes of fame" bestowed upon many of that same place and time, Gaye spent the 1980's and 1990's working on political reform, feminism and animal rights. And now? Gaye and long-time partner T.V. Smith are still living together in London; on occasion, she has attended some of his concerts.
