DAY

Day 2

August 14,1999

Well, we had promised to get up, be packed and gone by 8am.

As we slowly woke and gently stretched, happy to be away from it all, we suddenly noticed that all of our clocks were different - and wrong - we had 5 minutes to unplug, pack and roll. With my shirt tail still hanging out, we pulled out of the campground.

Just down the road we pulled into an RV dealer to get our selves better organized. Michelle made breakfast, as I worked on slowing a leak in the water system under our bed. And then we were off. Ah!...but that would be too easy. When we got in the night before, it was dark of course and now the sun was shining. Things were looking up, or at least someone with a map should have been because before we knew it, we were headed in the wrong direction. 'Rimouski here we come.' We were supposed to be headed south to New Brunswick, not Rimouski (that little error added 40km). We weren't lost, we were just a little misguided that was all. Getting back on track wasn't going to be easy either, we missed our turn a second time in less than 30 minutes and ended up going through downtown Riviere du Loup. Which we will fondly remember as San Francisco East.

We checked out the Madawaska Historical Museum just after we crossed into New Brunswick. Neat introduction to how this part of the province settled.

Due to the rain, which started up again, there wasn't much in the way of photo ops. But by 3pm we made Grand Falls. Here we caught the Grand Falls gorge in New Brunswick.

Then we began to pass some of the odd sights, - Worlds largest Potato, Worlds largest Cow and calf. Then farther down the road we came across the Longest Covered Bridge in the world. Now here is a mans dream of what a real garage should be.

The only question now was could we fit through it? Here Matt and I go over the specs of the bridge and RV.

Needless to say, we made it through. But it is really only a One Lane bridge, and before entering you should ask yourself the big question – what if we meet another car head on?

Even still, being right or not didn't seem to matter at the moment while we were going through, the light at the end of the tunnel sure seemed like a long way off. If I had to back out this 27 foot long 'house on wheels'.... Ah I still don't want to think of that possibility. woo!!!

From here we drove on and still in the rain, pulled into Sunset Park and Campground in Pokiok, New Brunswick, just outside of Fredericton.

With the RV parked, dinner done, and a round of mini-putt with the kids over, I was now able to put up my feet, watch the news and relax with a pint. But if I was to think that my vacation had truly begun, I was wrong.

During the afternoon the fridge and toilet stopped functioning, and everyone decided that this would be a nice time if I would take a look at it. After some investigating I found that the fuse had blown. With that fixed, and feeling really good now, I started to ponder why the rug was still wet under our bed. After another pint, (or was it two?) I figured that it must be a problem on the roof. Just when I was on a roll of fixing things, I had another beer opened in my hand heading out the door, everyone again told me what to do ... bed.
