Science fiction and fantasy fans are, needless to say, devourers of books and other information pertaining to
their interests. Naturally enough, the Web has several wonderful, quite expansive sites of the information that
they crave. The following provides, hopefully, some as to where to find some of the more interesting
information for SF & Fantasy out there...at least some of the stuff that I consider to be interesting... The
following resources and various links are divided into sections, so as to make it easier to figure out what one
is looking for, and where to find it.
SF & Fantasy Awards
General SF & F Resources
SF & F Authors
SF & Fantasy Awards
- One of the terrific award sites out there is that of Laurie Mann. Laurie maintains a listing of both the Hugo and Nebula awards.
- The homepage for the James Tiptree, Jr.
Memorial Award for SF about gender issues is a very interesting site.
- A good reference site for sf in Canada is SF Canada, one that has all sorts of information
on the Canadian SF and Fantasy scene, and authors (among other things). Another good source for Canadian
content is the Canadian SF/F Resource Guide.
- Another Web site to check out is the SFF Net, formerly
the Greyware SF Page. This site has links to a large number of authors' home pages, including some of my
favourites. It also has a whole bunch of other stuff on it as well.
- The Science Fiction Resource Guide is a broad
collection of SF resources. I quote the author below:
This page cannot be all-inclusive, but I hope it is a useful starting point for searches while remaining
readable and interesting. I'd love feedback by e-mail: I'm especially interested in receiving
corrections to out-of-date hyperlinks, corrections to inaccurate summaries, and information that I
haven't included here. Some of these documents are stored at many sites and I've tried to point to
the location that's most up-to-date; tell me if you know of better or more reliable sources than
these.
The link above is one of two primary sites in the United States; Rutgers hosts the other. There
are several mirror sites, and these are listed at the beginning of the SF Resource Guide. If anyone knows of
a Canadian site that holds this information, please let me know about it so I can add it to the list.
- Yahoo has a good set of science fiction and fantasy links. These
can be found at their site.
- You can find a listing of many of the authors out there who have home pages on the Web, a lot of whom
are listed on my SF/F Authors page. Another source of this information would
be any good sf bookstore that happens to be on-line. I know of one, called Basilisk Dreams Books, that has an intensive, somewhat exhaustive
listing of these author pages now that their Web site is fully active.
- As I mentioned on one of my other pages, I am an old fan of several British sf tv series, notably Star Cops, UFO, Blake's 7, and The Prisoner. I am constantly looking
for sources of information and Web sites about these series, so please let me know of any out there by leaving
me e-mail at jkahane@comnet.ca.
- My favourite series currently on television is Babylon 5, one of the most innovative science
fiction series to come down the pike in a long time. It's so much a hobby of mine that a there is a small section
here in the SF & Fantasy pages devoted to that series. You might want to check the Babylon 5 pages to see what I've got here. There is a B5 Resources page in my Guide that is pretty intensive, and will take
you wherever you might want to go in the B5 universe.
- And then there are the magazines that relate to SF and Fantasy. I'm pretty new to this Web thing myself,
so don't know of a lot of places for info on this, so I hope that folks will get in touch with me and let me know of
some sites on the Web.
You can send me additions, corrections, and new listings through e-mail at jkahane@comnet.ca.
