Filk Resources

As I've already mentioned, I'm somewhat of a fan of filk music. There are some terrific places where one can find plenty of references to great filk stuff. This page presents some of those references. Needless to say, I will try to keep this page as up-to-date as I can, but the vaguaries of life may interfere in this endeavour.

• One of my favourite filkers, even if she has gone somewhat more professional these days, is Heather Alexander. She has an absolutely terrific homepage, one that is heavy on the graphics.

• Avalon Rising is a group that plays a Celtic-Medieval-rock fusion, a blend of original rock and jazz with elements of traditional Celtic and Medieval music. Highly recommended.

• Melissa Binde's site is a good source of general filk info, a list of filkers' home pages and various filk collections.

• Both Steve Brinich and Margaret Bumby have a lot of interesting links.

• Roger Burton-West has a list of his filksongs, courtesy of Melissa Binde's filk page.

• Monica Cellio is a member of the musical group On The Mark, a Pittsburgh-area folk music group. This page is a good source for information on folk music resources.

• Solomon Davidoff has a page with lots of interesting links, including filk and writing. Of special note is his section on filk definition.

• Meg Davis is a well-known songwriter, author, and artist, and she's one of my favourite filkers out there.

• Sherman Dorn has his own homepage, with a large section of filk-related material, including Sherman's own links.

• Julia Ecklar is a very talented lady. In addition to being one of the best-known filkers, Julia is also a science fiction writer and writing teacher.

• Of all the filk sites to check out, Joe Ellis's site is one of the best. Check out his terrific Filk section which includes a filk directory.

• Lee Gold is a filker and publisher of Xenofilkia, a bimonthly filk magazine.

• Lynn Gold has some excellent filk resources on her site.

• Eli Goldberg has a very nice web site, including information about Leslie Fish's filk material.

• Michael P. Kube-McDowell is a science fiction writer, and a filker. He plays with the Black Book Band.

• Kathy Mar is a well-known filk performer, and has written some truly delightful songs.

• Philip R. Obermarck is a lyricist, and husband to Heather Alexander.

• On The Mark is a Pittsburgh- baaed folk music group.

• Steve Savitzky has a lot of great links on his homepage, including the Interesting places for musicians and music lovers.

• Joey Shoji is a talented musician. His home page has a wealth of information about filk and other music, sf, Joey's group From Top To Bottom, other stuff.
