The Renaissance Pages

Last updated June 8th, 2000

Welcome to my set of web pages devoted to Renaissance. I've been a fan of rock and roll music for almost 38 years now, and Renaissance is probably my second avourite band of all time, right behind Jethro Tull. I have to admit that there are some other artists that I'm fond of as well. Notable among these are Mike Oldfield, Kate Bush, Clannad, 10cc, the Alan Parsons Project, Rick Wakeman, and Andreas Vollenweider. However, none of the music that I've listened to over the years has inspired me to the extent that the music of Tull has - but the band Renaissance has come damned close.

Oddly enough, there aren't all that many Renaissance websites out there. I'm not sure why this might be, other than the fact that the band has not really played together in some years (but there are plans afoot to change that these days, as the original members of the band - minus Jon Camp - have recorded a new album together back in late 1999). So what does this site offer to the fan of Renaissance? Well, for starters, it offers my own personal perspective of the band over the years - and believe me, with a band that has been recording together since the early 1970s, Renaissance has a lot of material, which allows me to deal with a lot of perspective. You'll find information about the band and various aspects pertaining to the band, but nothing official (since there are sources of material available about the official stuff). I've decided to provide folks with a relatively comprehensive Renaissance discography on this site. Sure, you can get that in all sorts of other places, but it's something that I like having around, and gives me some perspective on the history and music of the band. I'm sure that folks who come to the site will appreciate this. You'll find reviews of the various Renaissance albums on these pages, divided up into a sort of "Renaissance timeline," something that makes sense (at least to me) given the sheer amount of time the band has been playing together.

As mentioned before, there aren't all that many Renaissance websites out there. Each of the sites that I've found and am fond of contributes something interesting and unique about Renaissance to the internet community at large. For a selection of my favourite Renaissance websites, check out the link below.

And last, but not least, you'll find that I'm conducting a Renaissance Fan Poll that attempts to get to the heart of people's tastes when it comes to the music of the band. Please participate in the poll, if you can see your way to doing so, and let me know what you think about the band and its music.
