About the Author

Last updated April 10th, 1998

The author of this page is one John M. Kahane, the "M" standing for Michael. He best describes himself as a bookworm, somewhat of a computer programmer, and a bit of a flake at times, although that is more a matter of perspective than anything else. You can read a bit more about JMK's professional life on the Personal Info page, but there's nothing really there about what is going on in his life right now...

The author is currently self-employed, having founded a science fiction and fantasy bookstore, called Basilisk Dreams Books, with Kimberly Stevens, who had refused to let anything about herself be mentioned on *his* web pages. In March of 1997, Kim Stevens resigned as co-owner and partner in the bookstore, and has returned home to Virginia on a permanent basis. While the sudden departure of Kim left the author's personal and professional life in a state of emotional havoc, he has recovered some semblance of normality and is merely attempting to cope with what life has to offer on a daily basis. At other times, he is quite fond of dabbling in computers and working on software in his spare time (such as there is of it these days!), having worked in the computer software industry for some years. Owning a science fiction & fantasy bookstore is a dream come true, which is only natural, considering the author's fondness for reading, sf & fantasy literature being a particular love of the author's. He is also an avid roleplaying gamer, so it's only natural that you find a page or two here devoted to roleplaying games as well.

While the author of this page was born into the Judaic faith, he has very much been an atheist most of his life, although he favours the Wiccan ways in many things, and is a strong believer in the power of nature. This is not to say that the author doesn't favour the Jewish methods of cooking, since some habits die hard, but he also has a rather nature-oriented view of the world - even if his allergies prevent him from doing a lot of things that he would like to within the context of his beliefs.
