Hobbies and Stuff

What is on offer here?

To be honest, damned if I know. <g>: Actually, in all seriousness, this web site of mine has a lot of stuff to offer, depending on what your interests are. I'm no longer a professional involved in much of anything pertaining to the business world, although I am the owner and day-to-day manager of a science fiction and fantasy bookstore, Basilisk Dreams Books. Thus, the majority portion of these web pages deal with my hobbies and interests (some of which overlap with my professional side).

One of the things that you'll find here is a strong interest in science fiction on my part, as well as a few other hobbies of mine that I pursue most vigorously. When it comes right down to it, we are our hobbies and our outside interests, and the web page that you see in front of you reflects this. I suppose, when it comes right down to it, that this site is mostly going to appeal to those who have somewhat of an interest in computers, science fiction & fantasy, and the like. Make of that what you will.

Running a science fiction bookstore is a dream that I've had for a long, long time. It stems primarily from my enjoyment of reading books that began for me at an early age, as well as from the interest that I have in Science Fiction and Fantasy. My interest in sf and fantasy is primarily one of a literary nature, but I am also a fan of other aspects of the sf and fantasy field, as you will discover from my web pages. You can check out the SF & Fantasy Pages to find out what's there. Still along the same lines as the science fiction & fantasy interest, is my interest in Faery and the faerie folk, and an interest in Mythology & Folklore.

One of my other interests that relates to sf and fantasy is Roleplaying Games, RPGs for short, and you'll find a section dealing with this as well. You can check out the Roleplaying Games section to see what's there. I've also been a comic books reader for a long, long time, particularly enjoying the Legion of Super-Heroes since I was very young. While I haven't put any web pages up devoted to the Legion of Super-Heroes, it's something I would have done had I been somewhat younger and more energetic in webpage design.

Two of my current interests related to the science fiction and fantasy side of things are Babylon 5 and its sequel Crusade , and Space Island One . The former is a sf television series that was innovative, entertaining, and structured like a novel. It is, in fact, a novel for television. The sequel series has been plagued with production problems on the part of TNT, and will only run for 13 episodes as of this writing. It has tremendous potential, and may get a new home on tv if someone else sees the potential it has, and if the fans support the series to the best of their abilities. I had wanted to create some pages devoted to the cite>Babylon 5 television series, but with the abundance of so many sites dedicated to the series, have decided to offer instead a look at another series, British of course, Space Island One. This innovative sf series was fascinating in its look at the near future and space exploration, and had some wonderful things going for it.

Several other interests and hobbies of mine are covered here in this section as well. I worked in the computer industry for some years prior to my owning and running a science fiction bookstore, so I have something of an interest in computers in general, and I am a fan of OS/2 Warp, the operating system that is marketed by IBM. You'll find a page (or two) here devoted to OS/2, and some other stuff pertaining to computers as well.

You will find a lot of hyperlinks from this site to others, especially when it comes to the fantasy and science fiction stuff, not to mention the roleplaying, computers and other stuff. Most of the links that you find here are really "jump points" <g> to other places that hold much more extensive files and information on various subjects than what I hold here at my own web site. This is as it should be, to be honest. Many of the pages that I've listed here are interesting to explore, which is as it should be. The universe *likes* serendipitous behaviour! So go out there, and explore...
