The Continuum Narcissists FAQ

Last updated May 25th, 2000

The Continuum roleplaying game has been in existence for about five years now officially, and there are many elements of the game system that have aspects to them that make the players, and GMs, think a little bit. This Frequently Asked Question (FAQ) page is designed to answer some of the commonly asked questions about one of the more complex Continuum game elements - Narcissists (or Crashers, as they are called in the Narcissist RPG).

Frag Frequently Asked Questions

How common are Narcissists (Crashers) outside of Swarm Prime?
Chris Adams wrote, "Plenty common. If the multiverse is infinite, crashing can be learned by some dim somewhere, and thus another world of crashers is born, spreading out into eternity. The TV series Sliders demonstrates this well, since Quinn (Mallory) keeps running into other sliding Quinns and slider empires. Of course, we'll be presenting our own examples. Besides, Quinn didn't believe time travel was possible... In the case of your Seattle extra, if he's from a paraverse within proximity 100 of Swarm Prime, the odds are very good that he learned his art either directly or at one or two removes from a Swarm Prime crasher. The Swarm creates a lot of refugees.

""Have you seen this child?"

"Do they all originate from the main timeline?

"Or do Paraverses develop their own time machines or nanotech? Narcissist v0.5 vaguely implies that it might be so, in its comments on Extras... Well, the multiverse is said to originate from Betne's experiment. But crashing can be discovered independently. Note that any paraverse within proximity 100 of Swarm Prime will be very heavily influenced by the Continuum/Yrne conflict. It is most likely either to be under the examination of the Quicker (thinking it an enormous, dissipate as/as not to be collapsed) or be part of the Royal Road, and subject to one of the Kings. Your Seattle extra's paraverse has every possibility to exist close to the Swarm, of course, since what is a small fraction of infinity? The danger lies in the Quicker discovering him, and deciding his home "paraverse" is just an error needing to be erased...

"Beyond prox. 100 from Swarm Prime, anything goes."

Do other Swarm-like universe exist?
Chris Adams wrote, "According to Yreans, absolutely. That's why it's Swarm *Prime*. Mercifully, alternate Swarms are at an extreme remove from Swarm Prime and the Royal Road (at least prox. 10,000,000+) and are believed to be very separate from one another. Alternate Yrnes are curiously less likely to be attached to these, since the initial conditions (Betne's arrival) are believed to be unique to Swarm Prime. Besides, alternate Yrnes abound: that's the Royal Road."
