The Continuum roleplaying game has been in existence for
about five years now officially, and there are many elements of the game
system that have aspects to them that make the players, and GMs, think
a little bit. This Frequently Asked Question (FAQ) page is designed to
answer some of the commonly asked questions about one of the more
complex Continuum game elements - Benefits and Limits.
Benefits and Limits Frequently Asked Questions
- I am unclear about the Psychic Potential
Benefit. What exactly is it, and is it required to learn Aquarian Skills
later?
- Psychic Potential is not required to learn Aquarian Skills later - when
you have sufficiently high Mind or Quick you can just go and train
(Continuum , page 114). It's a genetic "fluke" (though see
Midwives) that crops up. It makes you weird in a way your century isn't
planning on, unlike every other Skill and Benefit you can choose. Psychic
Potential might even be detrimental in say, 16th Century Massachusetts.
It's different, and it's not really controlled by the player until the
required Mind or Quick is reached. It's only real benefit is having the
Aquarian Skill naturally, with no need to spend Age on training (like the
Lucid Dreaming Benefit). I suppose one could always ask the GM for a
specific Potential, but the dice may net you two.
Special thanks to Chris Adams, Dave Fooden, Barbara Manui, David
Trimboli, and the folks on the Continuum Mailing List for their help in the
compiling of this FAQ information.
